The Soviet Atlas of the Antarctic

Summary

An Antarctic atlas in two volumes is being published in the U.S.S.R. The first volume contains about 200 pages of maps, the second about 1000 pages of text. The basic principle of the geographical division of the Antarctic is stated here, emphasizing both its geographical originality and the features of geographical similarity of the zones of the southern and northern hemispheres. The Antarctic and sub-antarctic circles are distinguished. The temperate zone of the southern hemisphere is discerned beyond the Antarctic boundaries, but still within the area of the South Ocean.
