Summary
The National Atlas of Sweden, initiated in 1987, has published fourteen thematic volumes, with the remaining three of the planned seventeen to be completed by May 1996. Version 2.0 of the PC-Atlas has been released on diskettes and CD-ROM, with full completion expected in 1996. This article summarizes the experience of this comprehensive cartographic project, evaluating its organization, budget, editorial work, computer cartography, and marketing results for both the book and PC versions. It also outlines a proposal to the Swedish Government for the project's continuation after 1996, including continuous database updates, annual CD-ROM distribution, revised book editions, and three new thematic volumes per year (one being a regional atlas) until the year 2000.
