Summary

The ICA Commission on Atlases announces publication of The Atlas Cookbook – 10 ingredients how to edit an atlas, a free digital guide for atlas makers, map producers and cartographers. It gives an overview of realisation phases and advice on conceptual, organizational, graphical and publishing issues. Ten chapters run from organization and marketing through content, data management, multimedia and design to prototyping and evaluation; it is written at management level and largely addresses digital technologies, though many sections also apply to printed atlases. A printed edition of 200 copies, supported by ICA and ETH Zurich, is available free from Chair René Sieber.
