Publication Notes: National Atlas of Cuba

Summary

The National Atlas of Cuba, a collaborative publication by the Cuban and Soviet Institutes of Geography, was initiated in April 1965 under the supervision of Antonio Núñez Jiménez, president of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. Forty institutions contributed to its research, with Soviet cartographers providing editorial and compilation consultation. The 144-page volume features 105 color maps, 23 pages of explanatory text, and a seven-page index of geographical names, organized into categories including general, physical, agricultural, industrial, cultural, historical, and population maps. Approximately half of the maps depict natural features of the Cuban archipelago, with emphasis on comparing pre- and post-revolutionary statistical data. Priced at about $15, a complete English translation is available through the U.S. Joint Publications Research Service.
