Summary

Meeting in Moscow and Leningrad on 11–20 August 1958, the IGU Commission on National Atlases reviewed national-atlas projects in Belgium, India, Canada, Poland, the United States, France, Sweden and Britain, alongside Soviet atlas plans and comparative studies of map content and design. Its resolution called for intensified work and publication, a permanent Moscow secretariat to track progress, comparative, bibliographic and technological studies, an atlas exhibition at the 1960 Stockholm congress, and a four-year extension of the Commission.
