Meeting in Moscow in August 1958, the International Geographical Union’s Commission on National Atlases examined how differences in map selection, mathematical frameworks, indicators, and representation hindered comparison among national atlases. Participants heard methodological reports and accounts of completed or planned atlases from several countries, moved toward common views on atlas purpose, content, and improvement, and approved Professor K.
