Summary

The Commission’s first plenary meeting, held in Moscow on 11–20 August 1958, reviewed national-atlas projects in Belgium, India, Canada, Poland, the United States, France, Sweden, Britain, and the USSR, alongside studies of projections, scales, and thematic mapping. It debated atlas purpose, content, comparability, and production standards, and accepted K. A. Salishchev’s proposed definition and core sections. For the 1960 Stockholm Congress, it planned a comparative monograph with recommendations, bibliographic work, publications, consultations, and a Commission report.
