Summary

This article reviews two significant atlases published in 1963 along with other geographic publications. The "Atlas of Britain," produced by Clarendon Press, Oxford, comprehensively presents the resources of Great Britain and Northern Ireland across 200 map pages, covering topics such as geology, climate, agriculture, industry, and population at scales including 1:2 million and 1:1 million. Its geological maps and block diagrams are particularly notable, though some statistical maps suffer from overly vivid colors and the overview maps are overloaded with information. The other work, "Stora bilatlasen Europa," is a European road atlas by Kümmerly & Frey, featuring 1:1 million scale mapping of Western Europe with detailed road classifications and a 40,000-entry index, serving both practical and reference purposes. The article also reports on the Nimba iron ore project in Liberia, newly independent African states in 1963 (Kenya and Zanzibar), and the publication of "The Geographical Digest 1963."
