Summary

This article reviews the Atlas of Finland (Suomen Kartasto, 1960) and the Autoatlas ČSSR (Czechoslovak Road Atlas, 1963). The former, as the fourth edition of Finland's national atlas, is highly praised for its outstanding content and cartographic quality, particularly its innovative 1:1,000,000 population and arable land comparison map and marine thematic maps. However, the review notes deficiencies such as outdated data and the lack of explanatory text. The latter is acknowledged for its enlarged scale, enriched content, and improved text sections, but is severely criticized for failing to distinguish between paved and unpaved roads—a critical omission—and for inadequate slope markings, rendering its practical value inferior even to pre-war Czechoslovak road maps.
