Konstantin Alekseevich Salishchev as a researcher of the Far East

Summary

Konstantin A. Salishchev (1905–1988) is a founder of the scientific school of geographical cartography, a world-renowned scientist, one of those who made an invaluable contribution to the study of the Far East. During 1926–1934, together with S. V. Obruchev, he participated in three expeditions to explore poorly studied areas of the Far East. The result of the study was the discovery of the Chersky ridge and the Oymyakon cold pole. Research and first compiled by K. A. Salishchev’s topographic maps based on his astronomical definitions and route surveys gave a new idea about this region. Research, which he made together with S. V. Obruchev, led to the foundations for a new geography of this region.
