Summary

Meeting in Leipzig on 23–30 September 1974, the IGU commission reviewed current and proposed national and regional atlases and discussed environmental, economic, social and cultural mapping, standardization, bibliographies, and international cooperation. Edgar Lehmann advocated planning atlases, new map types and computer use; participants also debated the definition of a regional atlas and proposed forecast maps. For its July 1976 meeting in Yerevan, the commission recommended discussion of environmental, cross-border, superregional and urban atlases.
