Summary

Established by the International Geographical Union in 1956 and chaired by K. A. Salishchev, the commission met in Moscow and Leningrad on 10–20 August 1958. It reviewed national-atlas projects and reaffirmed goals of improving quality, standardization, and map comparability. Proposed tasks included analysing existing and planned atlases, creating a bibliographic centre and Moscow State University secretariat, providing consultations, and preparing a report and exhibition for the Stockholm congress.
