Introduction to Foreign Atlases: The Soviet World Natural Atlas

Summary

This article reviews three important Soviet atlases. First, the World Physical Atlas, published in 1964 after ten years of work, contains over 260 pages of color maps in three parts, covering global and continental features such as topography, geology, climate, hydrology, soils, vegetation, and fauna, reflecting new achievements in physical geography. Second, the Agricultural Atlas of the USSR includes 377 maps in nine sections, systematically presenting the natural conditions, material base, and development level of Soviet agriculture, including climate, soils, crops, livestock, and republican agriculture, praised as an outstanding agricultural atlas worldwide. Third, the Atlas for Secondary School Teachers serves as a teaching reference for geographic education. Together, these atlases demonstrate the achievements and characteristics of Soviet cartography.
