Summary

Anaïs Nin’s House of Incest (1958) is an experimental prose work built from shifting visions, memory, desire, and dream. Val Telberg’s contribution is integral to the volume: he created the photomontages that accompany Nin’s text, using surreal juxtapositions and altered photographic imagery to give the book a second, visual structure. The edition is therefore a collaboration between Nin’s writing and Telberg’s image-making, with the photomontages extending rather than simply illustrating the atmosphere of the prose.
