Der erste Nationalatlas der Ukraine — eine hochinformative Quelle zur Landeskenntnis

Summary

Printed around the turn of the year 2007/2008, the National Atlas of Ukraine could be presented to the public in the following spring. It presents itself as a fundamental cartographic work that corresponds to traditional conceptions of such an atlas while simultaneously being at home in the modern era with its content. The typical topics, or those relevant to Ukraine, are addressed in six chapters. The most extensive is that on the country's natural environment (321 maps), followed by that on the population (181 maps); all main maps have scales of 1:2.5 million and 1:4 million. In the present article, the scientific-methodical processing foundations, the specifics of the content in detail, as well as the intended and slowly emerging significance of the atlas are presented. Since the work is not only available in bound form, the electronic version is also briefly discussed. At the end, the continuation of work on and with the atlas is addressed.
