Summary
This September 1994 report describes the commission’s electronic-atlas session at the ACSM/ASPRS conference in Reno. Presentations covered multimedia, PC platforms, European national atlas formats, and tools for greater user participation. Keller proposed research on comparison, temporal data, hypertext and user demand, while questioning excessive gimmicks. Other speakers outlined an educational atlas of Ohio, previewed an authoring system for nonprofit producers, and proposed a collaborative US national atlas programme. Session papers were planned for a special issue of Cartographic Perspectives; a joint seminar in India was also proposed.
