Commission on National and Regional Atlases

Summary

This report reviews the activities and progress of the IGU Commission on National and Regional Atlases from 1972 to 1975. Since its establishment in 1956, the commission has held plenary sessions biennially. The 9th Plenary Session in Leipzig in 1974 focused on methods for compiling national and regional atlases, the design concepts of thematic maps, and the integration of environmental and urban maps. The report notes a significant increase in the production of regional atlases during this period and emphasizes the importance of atlas compilation in developing countries.
