Commission on National and Regional Atlases

Summary

At its seventh plenary meeting in Madrid, 26–30 April 1970, the IGU Commission reviewed national and regional atlas projects, working-group studies, and developments including automated mapping, synthetic maps, and satellite imagery. It reaffirmed support for producing and improving national, regional, and urban atlases, proposed eventual preparation of a Thematic Atlas of the World, and sought to hold its eighth meeting alongside the 1972 International Geographical Congress in Montreal.
