Commission Highlights: Atlases

Summary

Co-chaired by Eric Losang and Vít Voženílek, the session examined print and digital atlases as tools for communicating environmental and social data. It praised the Atlas of Sustainability for presenting scientific information through accessible, policy-relevant visual narratives, and discussed interactive mapping, real-time data, user-centered design, and tensions around authority and coherence in participatory cartography. It proposed further collaboration and invited future-session proposals on thematic and national atlases and their use in higher education.
