Commission des Atlas nationaux

Summary

Founded in 1956, the Commission reviewed its 1969–72 work: research and bibliographic publications, the 1970 Madrid plenary, and atlas exhibitions in Madrid and Budapest. It surveyed expanding national and regional atlas production and identified a trend toward atlases for planning and development areas beyond administrative boundaries. For its next term, it proposed biennial reports and exhibitions, targeted studies of atlas design, users, updating and costs, bibliographies, and cooperation with the International Cartographic Association.
