Summary
The National Atlases Commission’s fifth plenary met in Paris on 25–27 April and Lyon on 28–30 April. It heard 17 reports on national and regional atlases; the account highlights the completed Czechoslovak atlas and completed first part of Spain’s national atlas, both awaiting release. Nine research presentations addressed thematic map selection, harmonization of legends, relationships among physical-environment maps, and the balance between maps and text; most concerned unfinished work and sought comments for further international discussion. The agenda also included refining the commission’s work plan through the December 1968 geographical congress in New Delhi.
