Commission des Atlas nationaux

Summary

Founded in 1956, the commission supported the preparation and scientific improvement of national atlases. Its Moscow–Leningrad plenary meeting of 11–20 August 1958 adopted a two-year programme that produced a Soviet-led monograph, Polish bibliographies, a Swedish publication report and atlas exhibition, and advice on several national atlas programmes. The report states that this programme was completed, but map harmonization was deferred; it proposed renewing the commission for four years to address standardization, regional atlases, international physical-environment maps, and atlas revision.
