Summary

This document comprises two book reviews. The first reviews four issues of the Canadian 'Cartographica' monograph series, covering the history of 17th-century Newfoundland mapping, the influence of map users on design, Soviet historical cartography, and the standardization of national atlases, highlighting the series' demonstration of advanced Canadian cartography. The second reviews E. Arnberger's 'Die Kartographie im Alpenverein', which systematically summarizes the surveying and cartographic work behind over a hundred high-mountain maps by the Alpine Association, offering detailed, balanced assessments and a comprehensive chronological bibliography, establishing it as a key reference in cartographic history.
