Summary

This review discusses five newly published map sheets of the Atlas of Australian Resources, prepared by the Department of National Development. The maps cover: population increase and decrease (1947–1954), showing urban growth contrasting with rural decline; health services, indicating hospitals, bush nursing stations, and flying doctor bases; educational facilities, depicting various school types; dominant land use, distinguished by 12 color signatures for livestock, agriculture, and forestry; and ports and shipping, detailing harbor significance, cargo types, passenger traffic, and hinterlands.
