Summary

This article introduces the Atlas of Finland, published in 1929 by the Geographical Society of Finland in Helsinki. The 320-page volume, accompanied by a magnificent collection of maps, was issued in Finnish, Swedish, and English; the Geneva Geographical Society received the English edition. Particular attention is drawn to the chapter on state organization, which offers a captivating summary of Finnish history, followed by in-depth studies of the country's climate, flora and fauna, its countless lakes, and forests covering over 70% of the territory. Chapters on languages, ethnography, agriculture, mining, maritime trade, and public education are also of great interest. The volume concludes with comprehensive and recent census data, revealing a population of approximately 3.5 million—609,000 urban and 2,949,000 rural—comparable to that of Switzerland.
