Antarctic Map Folio Series

Summary

This article reviews the Antarctic Map Folio Series published by the American Geographical Society and the progress of Antarctic geographic nomenclature. The folio series aims to summarize current knowledge of Antarctica, covering topics such as ionospheric conditions, ice sheet physical characteristics, and mapping history, with each folio containing maps and explanatory text. In nomenclature, the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names approved 1,031 new names, amended 64, and promoted name simplification, while cooperating with other countries. A new gazetteer, Antarctica, containing approximately 11,500 entries, is forthcoming. These efforts provide a crucial foundation for Antarctic scientific research and international collaboration.
