Summary

This review evaluates the first three installments of Atlas der Donauländer, a multilingual thematic atlas devoted to the Danube countries. The planned work comprises 48–50 large-format map sheets covering the region’s physical geography, population, and economic structures; fifteen sheets had appeared at the time of review. Drawing on heterogeneous data coordinated by respected geographers from several countries, the atlas combines predominantly 1:2,000,000-scale maps with diagrams, profiles, concise texts in four languages, and detailed tables. The reviewer finds the thematic cartography clear, accessible, and exceptionally detailed despite the difficulty of harmonizing national sources. Its quality equals that of leading national thematic atlases, making it an indispensable reference for future geographical research on the Danube region.
