Summary

This review evaluates Folio 12 of the Antarctic Map Folio Series, a major compilation of Antarctic geology based on extensive international research. The volume contains eighteen detailed geological map sheets covering most exposed coastal areas and major nunatak regions, together with maps of fossil occurrences, radiometric ages, coastal geology, morphometry, and Gondwanaland geology. Drawing on published studies, SCAR conference materials, and previously unpublished findings, it demonstrates the substantial advances achieved through post-International Geophysical Year exploration. The reviewer highlights the morphometric analyses and Gondwanaland tectonic synthesis as particularly valuable. Despite omitting some very recent discoveries, the folio is regarded as the series’ most comprehensive and important volume and a lasting milestone in Antarctic geological research.
