The survey describes the 1970 second edition of Atlas de la República de Chile, published by the Instituto Geográfico Militar and prepared under Pedro Medina Arriaza's direction. Its 249 pages of maps, photographs, and text are organized into four parts: Antecedentes, Mapa físico, Mapas temáticos, and Nombres geográficos. The physical-map section contains a 13-sheet hypsometric map at 1:1,000,000 and photographs of life in Chile. The thematic maps cover physical geography, population and ethnography, economic activities, transportation, tourism, parks, and forests.
