Santiago Borrero Mutis · 2013
Santiago Borrero Mutis recounts directing the printed 2002 Atlas de Colombia while heading IGAC, with Nancy Aguirre coordinating the technical work. He describes more than five years of preparation between 1996 and 2002 by an interdisciplinary IGAC team, with thematic contributions from over 32 public and private institutions. According to Borrero, its more than a thousand maps, graphs and diagrams synthesize Colombia's geographical, social, economic and cultural information in an accessible form. He credits the atlas with radically changing the presentation and description of the national territory and considers it unsurpassed among comparable national atlases in the region at the time of his address. He also states that the succeeding administration handled the final print run and mass distribution after its official presentation at the presidential palace, and criticizes that administration for claiming credit for the work.
